Super Eagles humiliates Argentina

Nigeria's Super Eagles, on Wednesday night, mesmerised Argentina in an international friendly at the Abuja National Stadium with a comprehensive 4 - 1 victory.

A brace from Real Zaragoza striker, Ike Uche in the 10th and 40th minutes of play, proved a bitter pill for the South Americans to swallow, as the Nigerian players gave no room to the visitors and showed no respect to the former world champions.

Two other goals from Victor Obinna Nsofor in the 27th minute and Emmanuel Emenike in the 53rd minute, saw the Eagles making it a most memorable night for their country men. While Nsofor scored from the penalty spot, Emenike beat the off side trap to tap the ball over the Argentine keeper, Mario Boselli.

The Eagles, under Coach Samson Siasia, took advantage of fast breaks that caught the South Americans napping on several occasions. Though the boys from Maradona's country fought hard to regain control of the game, the Nigerian defence marshalled by Joseph Yobo was a no go spot for Argentina, as the defenders left goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama and Dele Aiyenugba, who later replaced him, with little or no job to do.

At a time when the fans thought that the match was about to end with the Eagles keeping a clean slate, the referee from Niger awarded Argentina a penalty in the 97th minute, which was neatly converted to put the final score line at 4–1. It would be noted that yesterday's victory was the first Nigeria would be recording against Argentina. The Argentines had before now won all the previous encounters with Nigeria. Before yesterday’s match, both countries had met four times with the last being at the South Africa 2010 World Cup, which the Argies won by a lone goal.

Super Eagles’ skipper, Joseph Yobo said after the game yesterday that the victory over Argentina was a morale booster ahead of Sunday's all-important Nations Cup qualifier against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa.
