Convicted former Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has been denied bail by the Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos.

He had gone to court seeking to be freed from prison and get his conviction quashed.
The panel of three justices led by Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi had in October adjourned for judgement after listening to arguments from counsel representing parties in the matter.

It ruled today that the conviction was in order.
Justice Olubunmi Oyewole of an Ikeja High Court had on July 26, 2009 convicted George and five others for abuse of office without an option of fine but the six convicted persons immediately filed an appeal before the appellate court.
